How do you choose the right magic lessons for kids and beginners? Is there a ‘right magic course’? Why can’t I just watch Youtube to learn magic?
Perhaps you want to impress your friends with a few easy magic tricks? Whether you’re an adult or a kid, it’s fun to learn these illusions.
However, learning magic is NOT about learning secrets. Maybe a child may get instant gratification when he surprises an adult. With proper lessons, your children can gain confidence, speak better and increase their creativity.
Because Magic is NOT about secrets.
Yes, a lot of people have the misunderstanding that magic is all about secrets. It is not.
Due to the nature of YouTube in which depends on the backend algorithm, the content creator will probably have to skip important principles of magic if they were to teach. If they teach as they would in a masterclass, they may lose the audience. They do not want to risk losing their viewers since there are so many distractions from other videos.
Hence a proper magic class covers so many aspects that it is difficult to cover in one lesson or even 1 day.
Magic has so many advantages like other performing arts like music or art if it is learnt correctly.
You have to ask yourself, what do you want your child to achieve after the magic lesson. For instance, after sending your kid to violin lessons, you would learn them to play the violin confidently. After attending art classes, you would hope that they can draw better and better (maybe to have a style of their own). Your objectives may be similar to magic, with this art improving their presentation skills, creativity, critical thinking and much more.
How do I choose a reputable magic tutor for children?
As we provide magic lessons as well, I will try to be as neutral as possible as there are many great magicians in Singapore who can teach too.
- Find a magician with real pictures – If the website is just showing stock pictures, be very wary. He should have track records of him teaching, if not performing.
- Do not go for quantity, go for quality – A lot of magic courses say you can learn 10 magic trick in 2 hours. That is impossible. In other words, there is just no way these lessons can go in-depth. It is like just teaching you to play notes on your piano without understanding what the notes are. In this case, you may as well watch your youtube videos to learn. Even our magic set takes more than 3 hours to complete learning everything if we teach in a live lesson. If were to touch on different principles of magic, it will probably take 5-6 hours.
- Find out about the background of the magic instructor – For instance, Mr Bottle was on the cover of the magic magazine, the Linking Ring for his magic ideas. He was also a columnist for the American Society of Magicians. He was also the first and only Singaporean magician to be interview on BBC.

- Choose the right magic lessons based on the system of learning magic, NOT the type of tricks you are learning. – Secrets of magic are just tools to achieve your objectives. Ask any professional magician, they will tell you that the presentation of magic and the connection you make with spectators are more important than secrets.
