Don’t give up. Nothing is impossible if you try hard enough. That is the story of Mr Bottle.
Exactly 2 years ago, Mr Bottle was invited to Pyongyang to perform magic at the 31st April Spring Friendship Art Festival.
Mr Bottle: Of course, there were many amazing acts which I never knew was possible, like the hat juggling, aerial acts, etc.
There was an incident which I think deserve some sharing.
There was a fireworks show on the 15 April for the Founder’s Birthday. I didn’t know that of course, but my newfound friends, who were tourists asked if I was going. Hence I asked my minder if I was going. Unfortunately, no. I asked if I could go: no. Then I asked if I could ask for permission to go. My guide tried and miraculously, I was granted a ‘yes’!
We almost left with the tourist group when the tour leader of the group said I couldn’t take their bus since they didn’t have permission.
I asked my guide how we could go to there? His answer was taxi and there wasn’t any around. I asked him to call for one and he didn’t want to. Then magically, a cab appeared in the driveway of the hotel. He wasn’t willing to hop on the taxi and he relented finally.
All these happened in a span of less than 10min.
Was the fireworks great? Frankly, I am a not big fan of fireworks; I don’t even go the fireworks shows in Singapore because I was so privilege to grow up going to NDP every year.
What I wanted was to feel the atmosphere, I knew it would be different. I knew the parade square would be filled with people. Everyone, including the locals were videoing the fireworks using their smartphones. The reactions was fantastic.
I could have given up. The hard-fought ‘victory’ to go to the fireworks was especially sweet and, for me, that was what made the fireworks show great.
